Getting Back Together with The Goonies

One ceremony, one premiere, one con — and every Goonie finally on the poster.

Let me tell you about one of the best days of my life. Once upon a time, in a land far, far away. All the way on the West Coast, to be more specific. One huge fan of the 1985 adventure classic, The Goonies, finally met the cast of the movie. There he was, eyes sparkling, movie poster in hand, gazing upon the boys he watched go on an adventure of a lifetime, now all grown up.

That reunion of sorts happened on February 3, 2025, the day Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan held his hand-and-footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre. Many of his fellow Goonies were in attendance: Josh Brolin (Brand Walsh), Corey Feldman (Mouth), Jeff Cohen (Chunk), and Kerri Green (Andy), plus the film's screenwriter, Chris Columbus. After years of watching their adventure again and again, I finally got to see them in person.

It was a surprisingly emotional event. Ke Huy Quan had been around since the 80s, but it was only now that he was finally getting the attention he deserves. His Goonies castmates knew it, and they said as much when they paid tribute to him. I have to say, the best moment was when Josh Brolin read out Steven Spielberg's letter, which celebrated Quan's “second meteoric rise as a grown-up.”

I was there, front and center, to take in all the action. I loved Quan in both The Goonies and Everything Everywhere All at Once, and as a fan of his for years, I felt proud that he had this moment. Of course, I was even more ecstatic that the Goonies got together again.

It was one of the cast's biggest reunions in years, so I had to be there to see it with my own eyes and to get their autographs. After the ceremony, Quan and other Goonies approached us fans. I finally had them sign my poster, which I've had for years, and I'd been waiting for a moment like this.

The best news was it wasn't over. Later that night, Quan appeared at the premiere of his latest movie at the time, Love Hurts, and who appeared alongside the star of the night? Mikey and Andy! Sean Astin and Kerri Green came to support their former co-star, making for another Goonies reunion.

I still kinda wish both were there earlier at the ceremony, which would've been a more complete cast reunion, but I couldn't complain. I still met them and got their autographs that night, and the Goonies fan in me felt that the love I've given this movie was finally returned in spades.

And as if that wonderful day wasn't enough, some Goonies cast members reunited again later that year at the Awesome Con. The event held a panel for the film's 40th anniversary, and naturally, I went.

I also got Martha Plimpton, Robert Davi, and Joe Pantoliano, who appeared that day, to sign my poster. Finally, I got all the Goonies’ autographs. The signed memorabilia felt like a gift from these old friends, and it made me love the movie even more.
