When I Said Hello to Al Pacino's Little Friend

To each his own, but for me, Al Pacino is the greatest actor of all time. He has such mastery over his craft that everybody else, even those said to be in his caliber, just pale in comparison! Even when he's at his most exaggerated performance, it's still a lot better than others' subtler yet pretentious attempts at acting. This is exactly how I feel about Scarface.

Let me explain why I think Scarface is one of Pacino's finest performances. In his other classics, "The Godfather," "Scent of A Woman," and even "Donnie Brasco," Pacino clearly knows how to time himself. He knows where to place his screams and fits his more sinister quieter moments. But the legend knows that a character like Tony Montana doesn't require that kind of a meticulous approach. And he let all the rules out the window and brought the house down with his performance, complete with a campy Cuban accent!

Having watched the film thousands of times, I knew this was the movie poster I just had to let him sign when I attended a small meet-and-greet in Hollywood. It was a rare occasion set up by his fan base where he actually came. He gave a small talk about his career, a thank you speech at the end of it, the whole shebang! Good thing I attended too, cause I heard that it really is quite rare that the legend himself comes to these things. I was surprised he even goes to some at all.

Obviously, the most that I remember that night was when he signed my posters. I even offered him my pen just so that he'll touch it, but he got one from his coat pocket. "Is that your little friend?" I asked jokingly but, in all honesty, quite pathetically. "Wow! I never heard that one before!" he laughed. It honestly must have annoyed him hearing that sort of corny joke over and over again for the past decades or so. But, being the gentleman that he is, he laughed it off. He also must have known full well that I felt like a jackass at that moment. And I did!

Still, even though I embarrassed myself in front of the screen's best legends, that was still a great night. I met Al Pacino, for crying out loud! Not a lot of people can say that!

Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
