When Aliens Came Down to Earth

Ripley and Lambert, back on one stage — and the signature that took years to land.

By an anonymous Hollywood insider

Some movie icons overwhelm so much that they feel like aliens. Like, I can't imagine them living normally like us ordinary folks do, especially when they play such extraordinary characters on screen. And when you meet them in real life, it feels as if you just spotted a UFO land right in front of you.

This is exactly how I felt when I saw the cast of Alien, especially the one and only Sigourney Weaver. It premiered in 1979, but it remains one of the most memorable films ever. It inspired an entire franchise, countless parodies, and some of Hollywood's biggest stars.

I've met cast members like Tom Skerritt and Veronica Cartwright and got their autographs over the years, but my encounter with Sigourney Weaver will always stand out to me. I'm grateful all three are still active in appearing at conventions, especially since they've starred in some of the most iconic films in history.

I finally met Sigourney Weaver at New York Comic-Con in 2025. I'd had countless chances before that, but fan crowds and the press always managed to ruin it for me. No matter how many of her red carpet premieres I went to, there was always something that blocked me from meeting her.

Fortunately, her appearance at New York Comic-Con was different. She sat down for a panel where she talked about working on the film that started it all. I'd booked myself an autograph session with her for later that day, so naturally, I was there, movie poster in hand.

The panel went smoothly, and she shared a lot of insightful stuff about making the film, including tidbits I'd never heard before. The best part was definitely when Veronica Cartwright came out as a surprise guest near the end, leading to an unexpected reunion that was one for the books.

I'd already gotten Cartwright to sign my poster a couple of years earlier, so I wasn't focused too much on her. But I was nevertheless ecstatic to see them together again. It had been a while since I'd seen both incredible women share the same stage, much less be in the same room. It was an amazing moment.

“It felt like divine providence!”

In fact, I think it was better that she was there. I don't know, but I think Sigourney Weaver and Veronica Cartwright reuniting on the same day I finally met the former and got her autograph, on the same poster, no less, made it more special. It felt like divine providence!

Everything that happened afterward is still a blur. All I remember is finally meeting Sigourney Weaver and having her sign my Alien movie poster. I'd also like to think that Veronica Cartwright spotted me somewhere in that crowd and recognized me from a couple of years back, though I'll never know.

In any case, despite my fuzzy memories, this autographed poster is proof that the moment really did finally happen. I wish they were clearer so I can reminisce again and again, but I can't complain. I actually met the cast of one of my favorite movies. Who else can say the same?

Some things you watch. This one you keep.
