The Matrix Trio Reunite on the Red Carpet

Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus, together again on one carpet — and on one poster.

Has a movie ever captivated you so much that just seeing its stars made you wild? I have. The Matrix is still my favorite movie to this day, and I became a huge fan of its lead stars, Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, and Carrie-Anne Moss, at first watch. So imagine my shock when I saw them reunite on the red carpet at the premiere of John Wick: Chapter 2 in 2017.

The Matrix premiered in 1999 and changed movies forever. Two sequels followed in 2003, The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, released back to back. All were blockbuster hits and eventually became one of the best trilogies of the early 2000s. But unfortunately for us fans, Reeves, Fishburne, and Moss wouldn't star in another movie together again after that.

The John Wick: Chapter 2 premiere was the first time all three appeared together in public since then. I went to the LA premiere initially thinking I'd just get to see Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne, who both starred in the film. It was the first time both stars reunited on screen since Revolutions.

Suddenly, however, I saw Carrie-Anne Moss also show up on that red carpet. I almost went into overdrive.

Thank God my girlfriend was with me that night. She was the one who calmed me down since I was so excited. If not for her, I would've made a complete mess of myself in front of them. You just don't know! I love The Matrix so much, and those three are my favorite actors because of it. Seeing them in real life got me feral!

I even brought my Matrix movie poster thinking I'd get Reeves and/or Fishburne to sign it. But now, I had the opportunity to get all three of their autographs.

The easiest to ask was Reeves, who's always been known to be nice to fans. He was the star of the movie, so he was technically obliged to give as much fan service as possible. It was good news to me, and I finally got his autograph.

I also think that because Reeves signed my poster, Fishburne eventually signed it too. It's not like he didn't want to or anything, but he didn't strike me as the type to do this sort of thing. Fortunately, I was wrong, and the actor even smiled at me as he gave back my poster.

Then there was Moss. She tried to be low-key, maybe to keep the spotlight on the film's own stars, but a fan like me could spot Trinity anywhere. I asked her to sign my poster as she made her way through the red carpet. She looked reluctant, but she still did it, and it was amazing.

Fortunately, Moss eventually returned to the franchise four years later in The Matrix Resurrections, reuniting with Reeves. But this time around, Fishburne didn't return, so it was a bit of a downer. I still liked the movie, though I definitely would’ve enjoyed it more if all three of them were there.

I hope all three will reunite in public again, be it another Matrix movie or an official reunion. As far as I know, they’re all still friendly with each other, so it’s not outside the realm of possibility.

Who knows? Maybe in 2029, in time for the movie’s 30th anniversary, we may just see Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus together again.
