How I Got My Rare Jurassic Park Poster Signed

A white-background rarity, five signatures, and one favor from a friend in Mexico City.

Everyone knows that iconic Jurassic Park movie poster. That sinister-looking black-and-red image with the silhouette of the T-rex lurking about. It's one of the most recognizable pieces of cinematic art, and practically everyone has a copy. Well, not me! My movie poster is much more unique.

I got lucky when I acquired my rare Jurassic Park movie poster. Mine features a white background and illustrations of the various dinosaurs you see in the movie. It may not be as famous as the main poster, but I love how 90s it is, with the intricately drawn art. Movies don't do stuff like this anymore, so I consider it even more special.

As if it wasn't enough of a precious piece of memorabilia, I also got the cast to sign this very poster. Steven Spielberg, Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Samuel L. Jackson all signed it, and it's the best thing ever. It took me years, but it was time well spent.

I find it ironic that out of all the people I mentioned, I met Samuel L. Jackson first. Spoiler alert, but he gets killed in the first movie, so he doesn't even appear in any of the sequels and other, later movies in the franchise. But because he starred as Nick Fury in the MCU films, he was the easiest to meet.

I went to the Los Angeles premiere of Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and got him to sign both my rare Jurassic Park and Avengers posters. It was amazing, and I was glad he took the time to also sign the former even though he hadn't been in the franchise for more than 20 years.

After him, it was Steven Spielberg. I initially thought it impossible that I'd ever meet the legendary director, but I took my chances when I went to the New York premiere of his 2021 remake of West Side Story. Similarly to my Samuel L. Jackson encounter, I brought both my Jurassic Park and West Side Story posters to get his autograph on.

I guess I should consider it lucky that his movie musical remake premiered when the world was just recovering from the pandemic. It made for a more peaceful event, far less hectic than the Endgame premiere a couple of years back. Spielberg went up to fans and signed all our stuff. It was great!

The following year, Jurassic World: Dominion finally premiered. I waited for this night because I knew I was finally going to meet the three leads at the premiere. The franchise's original trio—Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, and Laura Dern—reunited for this movie. So it was a given that they'd appear in public together.

What I got was something a little different, but mostly better. Goldblum and Dern made their appearance, and BD Wong and Ariana Richards were also there. I was so focused on the trio's reunion that I forgot that Wong, who was also in the first movie, returned to the franchise too.

I got all of them to sign my poster that night, except for Neill, who didn't show up. Annoying as it was, I eventually heard that he'd made an appearance at the Mexican premiere instead. So I sent my poster to a colleague who works there, and he got the autograph for me.

Some might argue that I wasted time, money, and effort to get my poster signed, but I don't see it that way. I enjoyed the ride no matter how long it took and how hard it was. Just seeing this autographed poster, signed by some of the best actors in Hollywood, is more than enough.
