You know when you get a present that just blows you away? Like your first ever toy, for instance, or your parents finally getting you a car! Well, for me, just recently, it was a stack of posters. Seems boring, right? Well, those posters were signed by the all-star cast of "Insurgent." How do you like that?
Let me provide some context here! I've been a fan of Veronica Roth's "Divergent" Trilogy even before the movies happened. Just like how ecstatic I was back when the first "Harry Potter" movies premiered, I was over the moon when I heard that the bok franchise was finally getting its own film adaptations. And I couldn't be happier with the cast too! I mean, Shailene Woodley? Kate Winslet? Octavia Spencer? Ansel Elgort? and Naomi Watts? Yes to all of them! I couldn't have imagined that these incredible stars would one day bring some of my favorite book characters to life!
And to put the cherry on top, my best friend since elementary, who now works in Hollywood, became part of the crew! Now, no matter how close I am to the guy, I never really pressured him to do anything. I didn't ask him if I could go to the set and see them shoot the film. I didn't ask him to introduce me to the stars (or to any of his celebrity friends for that matter!). And I didn't even ask for free tickets to the movie premiere! All I did, however, was drop subtle hints of wanting to get their autographs. I knew my buddy would know me enough to know what I was talking about but he rarely acted on it.
And so, when the movie's premiere finally came about and I still had no autographs, I decided to go to the red carpet event and get them myself. I was just about ready to leave when my best friend suddenly barged into my place carrying a box. "What the hell are you doing here!?" I asked. I wondered why he wasn't at the theater already getting ready for the premiere. "Hold on, I got something for ya!" he told me. And then he opened the box.
To my utter shock, what was inside was a stack of "Insurgent" movie posters signed by most of the cast members. Yes, the Oscar winners I mentioned earlier? They also signed the posters too! I was left speechless! I couldn't believe he did it! I asked him how in the world he ever managed to do that and he simply told me that he's a big shot in Hollywood. To this day, I still don't know exactly what that meant but I didn't care! My autograph-hounding heart was palpitating seeing all those autographs on those pristine posters. He then asked me, "So, are you still gonna hound for autographs tonight?" And I said, "Hell no!"
Oh, and I almost forgot! That night, when my best friend brought me that unbelievable gift, it was my birthday! It was the only present I asked for and he went beyond to get it for me! I couldn't be happier!
