The Best Day Ever with The Goonies

A handprint ceremony, a premiere that same night, and the day a childhood fantasy came true.

I will always remember February 3, 2025, as the best day ever. This was the day I finally met The Goonies in real life and got their autographs. I always fantasized about seeing them in person, whether at an anniversary event, a convention panel, or possibly the premiere of a sequel. Little did I know it would be at two events that celebrated Ke Huy Quan.

The Goonies is one of my favorite films from my childhood. I'll never forget when my older brother first showed it to me, and I got hooked immediately. I really miss when Hollywood used to make adventure films with kids. The cast was as young as I was when I first saw it, and I desperately wanted to join them on their adventure.

Naturally, that never happened, but I still would've loved to at least meet them in person. After years of waiting and watching them work on their projects, it finally happened on February 3, 2025, when more of the Goonies came together in public than I'd seen in years.

As I mentioned earlier, the cast reunited to celebrate Ke Huy Quan during his hand-and-footprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theatre, a unique but iconic Hollywood tradition. I really love how Quan has recently become one of the most popular members of the cast, thanks in large part to his Academy Award-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All at Once.

The Goonies produced bigger stars that have had their moments since 1985. Josh Brolin has starred in countless popular films over the past few decades, including major franchises. And of course, Sean Astin famously played Samwise Gamgee in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy during the early 2000s.

Yet Ke Huy Quan's moment brought everyone together again. His hand-and-footprint ceremony that morning brought together Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Jeff Cohen, and Kerri Green, plus screenwriter Chris Columbus. Some even spoke at the event, specifically Brolin, who also read out Steven Spielberg's message to Quan.

Later that night, Quan attended the red-carpet premiere of his latest film, Love Hurts, and some of the Goonies came out to support him. This was where Sean Astin joined in, and seeing him alongside his old castmates was a reunion for the ages. I even teared up when I saw them all together again that night.

I didn't miss my chance to ask them to sign my Goonies movie poster that day. It had been years since so many of these actors were together in one place, so I didn't want to miss the chance to get their autographs.

Everyone signed my poster when I asked, and they were so nice about it. That made my best day ever even better, especially since I now have a piece of them to enjoy every time I think about or watch the movie.

Later that year, Robert Davi, Martha Plimpton, and Joe Pantoliano joined the rest of the cast at Awesome Con for the movie's 40th anniversary panel. I got their autographs there, finally completing the main cast I'd been chasing.
