I’ll Always Call These Ghostbusters

Forty years on, the originals still hold the proton packs — and one poster finally has them all.

All respect to the ladies of the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, but I'll always be a big fan of the original. They did a good job, don't get me wrong, and I'm not one of those people who raged about it just because they replaced the men with women. But for me, no one can replace the OGs.

Ghostbusters really did their big one when they cast Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Rick Moranis, and Harold Ramis. Paired with the incredible Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts, too, and they made up one of the best casts ever. Is it any wonder the 1984 film became a huge movie franchise?

It's actually one of the film franchises that I'll never get tired of, especially if it means seeing these legends on my screen again. Not only that, but I also got to see them in real life, too. I met Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Annie Potts at the Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire premiere in New York City.

They still looked more or less the same, but also had that hilarious energy that made the 1984 film a classic hit. It's a testament to their talent that they can still play the same characters 40 years later and still do it just as great as in the original.

Meeting them and getting their autograph was the highlight of my night. And I really liked the movie, too. I've really enjoyed where they took the story and the characters so far, and I wouldn't mind seeing more of it if it means getting to see these awesome characters again and again.

Also, I know I've been raving about the original actors, but I have to give kudos to Paul Rudd and McKenna Grace. They've done a great job leading the new generation of Ghostbusters without straying too far from what the OGs started.

I only wish that Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis stayed in the franchise, too. I get that the late Harold Ramis can't, as he's passed on, but these two are alive and well. Moranis unfortunately declined to still be part of it, while they just didn’t write anything more for Weaver's character. What a shame!

Anyway, I still managed to meet both actors and got them to sign the same poster. I met Weaver at the premiere of Avatar: Fire and Ash, and Moranis at San Diego Comic-Con this year, when he stepped out in front of a Hall H crowd for his big comeback. It was awesome to see them in person and get their autographs.

Even now, I still consider them the true stars of the Ghostbusters franchise. Moranis may no longer want to take part in these films, but he could never erase the legacy he built in them. The same goes for the rest of the original cast. They really did something special with the first movie, as well as the sequel that followed five years later.

I'll always love the first film, and I'm proud I got their autographs on the movie poster. I feel like it's the culmination of years of watching the movie again and again.
