Hitting the Jackpot with Iron Maiden

A VIP ticket, a forgotten prize draw, and a box of signed Maiden memorabilia on the doorstep.

Don't you just love it when your favorite band endures the test of time? I've seen countless groups come and go, but Iron Maiden remains strong after all these years. The classic lineup barely changed for decades (except for Nicko McBrain stepping back), they're all still alive, and the band is still touring. It's like I hit the jackpot with the band I chose to follow.

I won big with them twice. The first was getting to see them live at their The Future Past Tour in 2023. It was only the second time I'd gone to their concert in the decades I'd been following them, and I was determined to have a good time.

After getting COVID twice and almost losing my life the second time, I needed to go to this tour to remind myself that I was still alive. Venue staffers scanned the QR code on my ticket, and it automatically included me in this unique contest. I heard they did this at every tour, and I was excited to join it for the first time.

Though I did forget about it when the concert started. How could I not? Iron Maiden was still so good, playing their hits as if decades hadn't gone by since they first performed them. They were all a lot older and didn't rock out the way they used to, but the energy and enthusiasm were all still there.

That night, I had so much fun that I forgot that I almost died literally the year before. This was the reward I gave to myself for surviving the pandemic, and it gave me a new lease on life that I couldn't have found anywhere else.

I would've been satisfied with just that. I saw my favorite band live, got a lot of free stuff, and enjoyed a party with fellow fans. I got my money's worth and then some, so naturally, the contest slipped my mind. I only remembered the morning after, and since I didn't get anything, I figured I didn't win.

Little did I know that my luck wasn't over. A couple of weeks later, I saw a big package left right outside my apartment. It was a good thing I live in a nice building, because if I didn't, I wouldn't have seen it when I got back from work. And when I opened it up, I swear my heart skipped a beat.

Now do you know why I love this band? Their music is great, they're still together after all these years, and they treat their fans so right! You can't say that about any other rock legend, can you?
