Happy to See Happy Gilmore Again

A sequel nobody asked for, a green carpet at Lincoln Center, and a Hawaiian shirt that never quits.

I'm not a huge fan of all the reboots and sequels that nobody really asked for, but I gotta say, Happy Gilmore 2 was great. It was awesome seeing everybody back again; the comedy was also still top-notch, and the vibe didn't stray too far from the original. As someone who loved the first movie, I liked it a lot.

Even the new cast members did a good job. I'm sure they added Bad Bunny and Travis Kelce to attract younger audiences, but I have to give them their chops. They weren't too bad as far as their acting is concerned, and they had their funny moments, too.

The original stars, however, still steal the show. It's always gonna be hard to outshine Adam Sandler in a comedy film, but Ben Stiller, Christopher McDonald, and Julie Bowen put up a good fight. I even think they're all funnier here than in the original, though I still think the first film had a better script.

Overall, the entire cast did an amazing job. They turned what could've been a corny cash-grab rooted in late-90s nostalgia into an actually hilarious sequel that, in my opinion, did well to live up to the first film. And I'm so glad, too, because Happy Gilmore was always a comfort movie for me.

I was already excited about it even before I saw it. I went to the movie's New York premiere, and I got to meet most of the cast. It wasn't the first time I saw many of them in person, especially Adam Sandler, but something about that night felt different.

Maybe it was because it was the sequel to one of my favorite Adam Sandler movies. I didn't exactly ask for Happy Gilmore 2, but I was still pretty excited. Despite my caution about how it would turn out, I still looked forward to it and hoped for the best.

Seeing the cast helped put me at ease. I got to greet everyone and wish them luck on the movie, from Sandler, McDonald, and Bowen to Bad Bunny. Even better, I got their autographs, too. The OGs and the newcomers all signed my poster.

The one I missed was Travis Kelce, who couldn't make it that night since Chiefs training camp had just started. Can't argue with that, though I'd have loved to see him there. Maybe next time.

Meeting Sandler was the obvious highlight for me. He was in full Happy Gilmore mode, complete with a Hawaiian shirt, gym shorts, and tube socks, and he was just as nice as ever. I've gotten an autograph from him multiple times before, and though I wished he recognized me, I can't blame him if he didn't. I was just grateful that he still signed my poster.

I also have to give kudos to Bad Bunny, who didn't try to steal the spotlight. He could've done a bit to make the night go viral, but he just posed for the cameras, talked about the movie, and gave out autographs. He never tried to outshine the original cast.

Everything is right with the world with Happy Gilmore 2. The sequel was good, and the hype around it was fully justified. Now, would I like a third? I probably wouldn't mind, but I'd prefer they leave it as it is now. They already did a great job despite all odds, so they don't have to ruin something that's already good.
