A New Superman Rises

A world premiere, a train of signatures, and the most earnest Man of Steel yet.

Just when I thought superhero movies were out the door, Superman rises again in 2025. And I have to say, they actually did a great job.

Superman has always been a tricky character to adapt because he's both familiar and unclear. Everyone knows who Superman is, what he looks like, and his comic book lore. However, he's also such a clean slate that just about any actor can put their own spin on him.

Christopher Reeve did an amazing job originating the role on the big screen. Brandon Routh did the best he could with what he had. Henry Cavill was amazing too, but I fear that his good looks overshadowed his acting. And now, here's David Corenswet, who gave the most earnest Superman portrayal I've seen so far.

I admit I wasn't too confident about him at first, but he shattered my expectations. You can feel that his Superman truly wants justice for the world, but also knows that acting upon it isn’t so black and white. He struggles the same way an ordinary man would, trying to stay good in such a flawed world.

I'm glad I had the foresight to go to the movie's world premiere in Los Angeles. Whether it would be a hit or a flop, I wanted to get the cast to sign my movie poster. Something in me told me that the movie would be culturally significant, and I'm glad it ended up being the case.

This was also an amazing cast. Nicholas Hoult was probably the biggest name of the three leads since he was already known for the X-Men prequel series and Mad Max. David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, on the other hand, were mostly known for their TV work, but were still successful nonetheless.

With supporting performances from Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi, I knew this was a cast worth hounding for autographs. Even better, they were all too ready to give them out. I barely had to ask them to sign my poster.

The three leads were the nicest. Corenswet was extremely charming, Brosnahan looked beautiful, and Hoult was very accommodating. They didn't care that both the press and the fans were screaming at them and for them. If they were gonna give out autographs, they were gonna do it.

The rest of the cast were just as pleasant. It was almost like a train of people signing my poster. They walked right behind each other, interacted with fans, and without being asked, took my poster and wrote on it.

Even James Gunn was so nice, too. When we made eye contact and I asked him to sign my poster, he came straight over and did it in a flash. It all happened so fast that I still couldn't believe it. I sometimes look at his autograph to remind myself that it actually did.

I'm glad the movie was a huge success, and I'm excited to see more from this new Superman movie franchise. I hope it will become as big as the MCU because, to be perfectly honest, Superman was always one of my favorites. He deserves to have successful films like Spider-Man or the X-Men.
