Following the Legendary Led Zeppelin

One last show in Valley Center, one trip to London, and three living legends on a single poster.

My fascination with Led Zeppelin has only grown since watching the documentary, Becoming Led Zeppelin. I've always been a fan of the band, but I never really knew their story until I watched it. It was so cool seeing how they began and what they've been through as one of the best rock bands ever.

In fact, I think I became as big a fan of the documentary as of the band itself. I even got its poster and hung it in my apartment for a while. The memorabilia is great, and it fits right in with my other Led Zeppelin merchandise, but I figured I could make it even better.

Since three of the four original band members are still alive, I figured I could ask them to sign the poster. I already have many autographed items from them, but they're mostly from older relatives who've seen them perform live or secondhand memorabilia I bought from strangers online. I wanted to meet the band and get their autographs myself.

Needless to say, it wasn't easy. None of them are as public as they used to be. Only Robert Plant remained active, touring with his new band, Saving Grace. I actually really like this other group of his, but you know, he'll always be the lead singer of Led Zeppelin to me.

Still, I have to be grateful he's still performing. It made it easy for me to meet him and get his autograph. I finally did at the final concert of their 2025 tour at Valley Center in California. There wasn't even a scheduled fan meet afterward. I had to work my way through the crowd to get near the legend, and when I did, he actually signed my poster. He was such a great guy!

Meeting Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, on the other hand, was way more difficult. They're not as active as Plant and rarely make public appearances anymore. They also both live in London, so it was never gonna be as easy as driving to a different part of the state for a concert.

Nevertheless, I persisted. Since I already had the lead singer's autograph on it, why stop there, right? It'd be a waste, especially since these two rock legends were still alive. If I could, I would've gotten drummer John Bonham to sign the poster too.

So what did I do? Fly off to London! I went there for a vacation with a couple of friends, and I brought the poster along just in case. Both men still turn up in public now and then, so I kept an eye out the whole trip, and luck ended up on my side twice. I crossed paths with each of them out in the city, and both Page and Jones were really nice about it.

At their age, and considering they're old-school rock stars, I would've brushed off any stranger who came up to me as I went about my day. But they didn't. They showed me grace and signed my poster, brief as those moments were. I kept it quick, thanked them, and let them get on with their day.

Knowing that they’re actually good people in real life made me an even bigger fan of Led Zeppelin. I urge anyone who hasn’t seen the documentary or heard their music to do it. You’ll thank me later!
