With the way people ask for autographs these days—well, not really autographs anymore but selfies!—we really are living in the millennium! I remember back when I was younger, it was simply getting celebrities to sign something. My first time was right at the turn of the 21st century at the premiere of "Center Stage."
Yep! In the first year of the 2000s, I was already hounding for autographs. I wanted to get those of the cast of "Center Stage" a movie that premiered that year that starred Zoe Saldana, Amanda Schull, Scottie Thompson, and more! It was your typical early oughts teen dance movie. Though it's a little cliche, it's still a feel-good-flick nonetheless. And I was so sure at the time that at least one of them will grow up to be a big star. And I was right! No, Zoe Saldana is one of the biggest celebrities out there! I'm so glad I got her autograph back then!
In fact, if I remember correctly, she was the first member of the cast that I got an autograph from. I remember I attended the LA premiere of the film with a couple of my friends and we all acquired copies of the movie poster that wanted them to sign. Though I've become a devoted autograph hound myself, that night wasn't my own idea actually. I was just roped into it by a friend who was a fan of Scottie Thompson and was a dancer herself. She desperately wanted her autograph and I thought it was fun so we went for it!
Although there weren't that many big stars in the movie, the premiere was still as lively as ever. Everyone looked beautiful, albeit in early 00s fashions, and they were so happy to be there. I'll never forget how joyful Zoe Saldana looked. I don't remember how popular she already was back then but at the time, it really dawned on me how much of a neophyte she was during red carpet events. Even more so when you compare her to how she is now! Still, she was the first to give her autographs to us!
Scottie Thompson also looked beautiful! I'll always remember how my friend squealed so hard to get her attention and when she finally noticed us, she was so shy she couldn't even speak! My other friend practically had to be her "voice" to ask Thomspon for her autograph. It was embarrassing but also kind of cute. And I was so glad that Thomspon wasn't a bitch about it.
We also got the rest of the cast's autographs on our posters too but it was those two that really stood out to me. Unfortunately, I never followed the careers of the actors in the movie. I'm sure my friend would know a lot about what happened to Scottie Thompson since then but for me, I'm only really aware of Zoe Saldana's success. It'd be a shame if the others stopped acting. I personally feel that no one gave a bad performance in the movie!
Reminiscing on how we did it back then, I sometimes wish I could have asked for selfies with celebrities too! Well, it's really not for me. Even when I hound for autographs now, I still don't dare ask the star to take a picture with me. Nevertheless, I still enjoy what I do!
Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
