One of the most argued topics on the galaxy far, far away is the best order to watch or re-watch THE Star Wars. Star Wars fans can’t seem to just let go of the fact that we have our own preferences, they’d like to argue about it and prove each other wrong. You don’t want to ruin a party just by asking what the best order of Star Wars you need to watch. As beloved as Star Wars is, and as fanatical as its fans are, you just know there are bound to be some serious disagreements, despite their shared interests.
Two viewing orders are usually proposed, one is according to George Lucas himself – “Start with one. That’s the way to do it right: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. That’s the way they’re supposed to be done. Just because it took a long time to film it doesn’t mean you don’t do it in order.” and the other one is to watch it according to the release date. Starting with the Original Trilogy (4,5,6) followed by the second trilogy (1,2,3).
What about us here at Poster Memorabilia, though? I asked my co-workers and we agreed to the same thing! Watch it the “machete” order (4,5,1,2,3,6). Yeah, I know it’s not on the proposed viewing orders, and you might think it’s unconventional but, I think this is the best way to watch it to fully enjoy the Star Wars experience.
This the first movie in our order since this is the jump-off point for our protagonist – Luke Skywalker; and all the main characters that we came to love or hate. This is also the episode where we were introduced to the main antagonist – Darth Vader.
Episode V: Empire Strikes Back
Episode V showcases the clash between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, this is also the movie that reveals their shocking relationship.

Now, here comes the fun part, before you proceed to Episode VI, we highly recommend that you watch episodes I, II, III first to give you a brief background on Darth Vader’s history before his final encounter with the Jedi.
This is the movie that you either love or hate. We love it though because this is the movie where the Jedi council is still complete, Obi Wan Kenobi’s mentor – Qui Gon is still alive, and this is the start of the Sith’s takeover. This is also where we get to see young Anakin Skywalker, and the princess Padme Amidala. And of course, the most important and famous Star Wars character – Jar Jar Binks (if you know what I mean 😉)
Episode II: Attack of the Clones
Now this is the movie where the clone troopers came to life, and did you know that a Jedi master was actually the one who ordered the creation of the clones? Also, Anakin is older now, and has found out the death of his mother at Tatooine, causing him to channel the said force Qui Gon saw in him on the previous episode – this time the dark side of it. The movie ends with a revelation that the empire are being controlled by an evil Sith.
Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
Ah the full action movie. This is where we see Anakin’s full transformation from being a normal boy, to a Jedi, and to a powerful Sith caused by the unfortunate event that happened in the previous episode. Padme Amidala died at childbirth, giving birth to twins, which we will later discuss.
Episode VI: Return of the Jedi
Now that you already know the story behind Darth Vader, in this movie, you’ll get to find out that Leia Organa is actually Luke Skywalker’s twin sister. This also serves as the final conclusion for the first six-part series.
Star Wars is versatile no matter what order you watched it, that’s why it has retained its popularity across different generations. At the end of the day, you will still have your own favorite movie in the series, and the best way to commemorate that is to have an autographed Star Wars poster which you can buy here at PosterMemorabilia.
