I appreciate that some people release films during the holiday season that are from the Christmas spirit. Sure, the holidays only come once a year, but when everything is in tuned to that, it gets a bit overwhelming. Well, not a bit, very overwhelming. And truth be told, I've never been that big on Christmas movies.
One movie that I appreciated seeing this holiday season was “Black Christmas.” Finally, a "Christmas movie" that wasn't all sugary and sweet. In fact, I loved seeing all the bloody gore and violence of it all. What can I say? That's just how I am. Also, I'm a huge Cary Elwes fan. Have been since "Princess Bride" and while he never became Hollywood's biggest leading man, he's still a great actor. An underrated one at that. Even though I personally thought this movie was beneath him—it's a teen horror movie, that's all you need to know—I still liked that he was there.
In fact, I'm such a huge fan of Cary Elwes that I attended the movie premiere hoping to get his autograph. I bought a couple of movie posters from the nearby cinema and went to the premiere amongst the throng of screaming fans. I went with my pre-teen daughter, who herself is a fan of the lead girl, Imogen Poots.
As the stars began arriving, I was trying to find Cary Elwes. My daughter, on the other hand, took charge of getting the film's young stars' autographs on our poster. We both agreed that the few extra copies we bought, we can sell online. I'm actually proud of my kid that she calmly chatted with her favorite actress and didn't wiggle out. Honestly speaking, I wasn't sure I would be that composed if I saw Elwes.
But to my surprise, I was! When he finally arrived, I waved at him to draw his attention and, luckily, he saw me. He went towards me and my daughter and he signed our posters. I told him how big a fan I was and that "Princess Bride" remains one of my favorite movies of all time. He just smirked and thanked me, a very standard response from any Hollywood actor.
At the end of it all, it was a great night at the movies I spent with my kid. I'm glad she shares my passion for the macabre. She, too, hates seeing rom-coms and cartoon movies during Christmas, exactly like me. She's a keeper, this one!
