The Aliens I Wouldn’t Mind Seeing Again

Ripley, Hicks, Hudson, Bishop, Burke, and Newt — all in one room in Calgary, one time only.

If there were a movie franchise I wouldn't mind seeing in theaters again, it's Alien. Sigourney Weaver can do no wrong, and that will include going back to the Alien film franchise in whatever capacity, or even in whatever role. I realized this when I met her at the Aliens reunion at Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo in 2014.

Aliens, the second movie in the franchise, is my personal favorite. Not only did it have Sigourney at her absolute best, but she also had an awesome supporting cast that elevated the story to new heights. You can never go wrong with her, Bill Paxton, Michael Biehn, Paul Reiser, Lance Henriksen, and Carrie Henn.

So when I met that same cast that day in 2014, it made my entire year. Never in my wildest dreams did I ever expect to see any of the cast, much less see them all together again almost 30 years later. It was a reunion for the ages, and I'm grateful I was in the room for it. Losing Bill Paxton a few years later made that weekend feel even more precious than it already did.

I naturally had the best time meeting them at the expo. It was fascinating hearing their stories about making the film. Especially about how difficult it was when special effects weren't as sophisticated yet. They really worked hard with what they had, and still produced one of the best sequels ever.

After the panel, I got to meet the cast and get their autographs. I've had my Aliens movie poster for a while now, and I always fantasized about meeting the cast and having them sign it. I never would've expected that day to come so soon after I got it, but there I was, poster in hand, waiting to see them in person.

The experience was memorable, to say the least. Especially when I met Sigourney Weaver.

I was just so used to seeing her so badass in the Alien films that I forgot how normal, practically reserved she is in real life. She definitely has that movie star impact, that's for sure. She doesn't need to do much to pull you in when you see her in real life.

She didn't say much, but she was really nice. I shook her hand and got her to sign my poster. It was great, especially since I got to see a different side of her than in the movies. It's also a testament to her talent that she can be so completely different on screen. I felt lucky to have gotten her autograph.

The others, especially Michael Biehn and Lance Henriksen, were a bit more spirited. I had a great time seeing them in person, getting their autographs, and getting a picture with them. The same goes for the rest of the cast, too.

I doubt there will ever be a sequel like Aliens. It's one of the few that I consider better than the original, right up there with The Godfather Part II and The Empire Strikes Back. I'm glad I got to honor the movie with this autographed poster.
