THE POSTER MEMORABILIA BLOG

Meeting This Cast
Was Everything!

An opening night in Austin, a friend's early poster, and the nicest carpet he's ever worked.

Thank the lord for Everything Everywhere All at Once! I honestly believe its massive success, both critically and commercially, has helped the movie industry open the door to original projects and cut down on nostalgia bait. It's one of the most original blockbusters we've seen in a long while, and it even won Best Picture at the Oscars.

We waited a long while for a film this new, weird, and unique to hit it big at the box office. We got used to comic book adaptations and live-action remakes throughout the 2010s, so even something slightly new felt fresh. But Everything Everywhere All at Once wasn't just fresh. It was a full cinematic feast, complete with an intriguing storyline, amazing performances, and cool special effects.

I stayed tuned in until it won all those Oscars in 2023. I first heard about it when Michelle Yeoh was cast as the lead, Evelyn Quan Wang. As a fan since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I was already excited, even before I'd heard anything else.

So when the movie opened the 2022 South by Southwest Film Festival at the Paramount Theatre, guess who was there to see it on its first night! Me, of course! I had already gone to the festival in Austin, Texas, many times before, but this was the first time I was extremely excited for a new film.

Not only that, but I even got to meet the cast and get their autographs on my Everything Everywhere All at Once movie poster. A friend of mine scored early copies and gave me one because he knew I'd be going to the world premiere.

Fortunately, much of the cast showed up on the red carpet that night. Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, Stephanie Hsu, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jenny Slate, Harry Shum Jr., and Tallie Medel were all there, along with the directing duo known as the Daniels. They all looked so good and were so nice when I called out to them.

Meeting Michelle Yeoh was the best ever. She didn't need a showy look to stand out, and yet she looked and moved more elegantly than anyone else on that carpet. She was and is a true movie star!

The rest of the cast were so much fun, too. I think they were the nicest group of celebrities I've ever met on the red carpet. I've been to countless movie premieres before, but these guys felt the most genuine, so getting their autographs was easy.

That night made the movie so special to me that I also cried when they won big at the Oscars. You'd think I was part of the cast and crew or something, with how emotional I got seeing them get all those awards. But they all deserved it!

I still watch the movie from time to time. I've made it an annual tradition to watch it on special days, whether it's my birthday or a holiday. It's such a great film, and it hasn't gotten old, at least not yet.
