I Could Spend an Infinity with these Superheroes

The night the Infinity War premiere turned a casual fan into a signature collector.

By an anonymous Hollywood insider

Let me tell you younger Marvel fans something: Phase Three was the best! The hype was at an all-time high, and the entire world was tuned in to every single part of it. The MCU was inescapable from 2018 to 2019, when Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame ruled the box office. I still look back at that awesome time, especially since I was there to see all the action firsthand.

I'm not ashamed to say that one of my life's many highlights was going to the Avengers: Infinity War premiere in 2018. I saw all of my favorite superheroes that night—Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thor, The Hulk, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch. And they were just as larger-than-life in person as they are on the big screen.

I don't even consider myself a celebrity stan or an autograph hound. It would've been enough to just watch the movie and see the stars from a distance, but I couldn't help it. Since I was already there, and my friend brought a film poster, I figured I might as well ask for their autographs.

I couldn't have picked a better place and time for my first time. After fighting tooth and nail to get to the front row of the fan pit, I finally met the Avengers in person. They paraded in front of us, soaking in all our screams and screeches. I was right up there with all the comic book nerds and film bros, screaming my lungs out to get their autograph.

“It was the closest I ever got to Hollywood royalty, and I got their autographs to prove it.”

How could you not love them when they give such excellent fan service? One by one, the cast members who attended the premiere signed my poster. Robert Downey Jr. did it. Chris Hemsworth did it. Scarlett Johansson did it. Tom Holland did it. Elizabeth Olsen did it. All of them did it. It was the closest I ever got to Hollywood royalty, and I got their autographs to prove it.

You've probably already noticed one striking exception. Yes, that’s right, Chris Evans wasn't there. It was a huge bummer, too, because Captain America is one of my ultimate three favorites across the board. Whether it's the MCU or even the DCEU, Steve Rogers is right near the top of my list.

I heard Evans was performing on Broadway that night, which was why he was a no-show. Would I have wanted him there to sign my poster too? No, duh! But did it ruin my night that he wasn't? Heck no!

Don't worry! I eventually got his autograph on the same poster when I went to the Endgame premiere a year later. There were also many other cast members who didn't attend that night, and my friend, who’s actually an autograph hound, chased them all around Hollywood for the rest of the year. Now that was some superhuman commitment!

I still watch and follow the MCU to this day, but I gotta admit, it hasn't been the same. All respect to the new stars and filmmakers behind the newer movies, but Phase Three will always be untouchable. I'm glad some of them are coming back for Avengers: Doomsday, but I doubt even they can recapture the same excitement as before.

Some things you watch. This one you keep.
