An Autumn Afternoon with the Gilmore Girls

Does anyone remember Gilmore Girls? It was a comedy-drama about a young mother and her teenage daughter who acted more like sisters than mother and daughter. I found it charming for the most part, but I get why others felt annoyed or didn't connect to its comedy. It's definitely not for everyone.

I liked it enough to have seen the entire series and the short Netflix revival in 2016. The drama wasn't too intense, and while the characters did get annoying at times, they weren't Carrie Bradshaw-level frustrating. Sex and the City fans know what I'm talking about.

The cast was also great, and the script was stellar. Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel really did a great job playing mother and daughter. Their dynamic wasn't just convincing; it was downright covetable. I wish I had bonded with my mom that way when I was a teenager.

And don't forget about that cozy vibe. Set in a small town in Connecticut, the show always felt like a warm hug, despite the drama. I remember watching it after work under the blankets on my couch with a hot cup of coffee. It was the best feeling ever.

I admit I liked the show enough to go to the premiere of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life in 2016. It was also so fitting that they held it in November, just in time for autumn. Though it was in LA, the slightly cooler weather still gave the cozy feel that the series was known for.

Most of the cast returned for the special. Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel obviously reprised their roles, but so did Scott Patterson, Kelly Bishop, Matt Czuchry, and Keiko Agena. It was such a nice reunion, almost like seeing your high school friends again after years of growing apart.

I also got their autographs on my Gilmore Girls poster. I had it for a couple of years by then, but I never would've thought I'd get it signed by the cast. So when the special was announced and I heard about its red-carpet premiere, I knew I had to be there.

They all looked great and not far from how they did when the first series ended in 2007. Alexis Bledel was the most surprising. She was older this time, but she looked so youthful that she could still play a teenager. I always thought she was so pretty, but seeing her in person really stunned me.

In fact, she still looks just as pretty now. If they decide to reboot the series with her in the mother role this time, I'd watch it in a second. I guess that's how much I really liked the show and miss it. And if other 90s and early 2000s media can return today, why not Gilmore Girls?
