A Thrilling Chase
for The Fugitive

A favorite actor, a favorite thriller, and a Comic-Con night too starstruck to remember.

If there's one celebrity I'll never forget meeting, it's Harrison Ford. I don't think you guys understand just how awesome he is. Most of you probably only know him from Star Wars and Indiana Jones, but he's starred in so many more amazing films. My personal favorite is The Fugitive.

In this 1993 action thriller, Ford plays Richard Kimble, who's wrongfully accused of murdering his wife. As US Marshals, led by Deputy Samuel Gerard, played by the equally great Tommy Lee Jones, chase after him, Kimble sets out to find the real killer and expose them before he gets arrested for a crime he didn't commit.

The plot sounds very similar to Alfred Hitchcock's iconic 1959 film, North by Northwest, doesn't it? Ironically, though, the 1993 movie is based on a 1963 TV series of the same name, so the two films have no relation. However, Ford gives as exciting a performance as Cary Grant here.

Even without Star Wars and Indiana Jones, I still believe that Ford would be the legendary screen legend he is today. Films like The Fugitive would've given him even more prestige as a dramatic actor, rather than just the perfect face for major franchises.

His movie-star appeal is palpable in real life, too. I met him at San Diego Comic-Con in 2015, at the Star Wars: The Force Awakens event where he made his first public appearance since his plane crash earlier that year. He looked as fit as ever, especially for a man his age at the time, and he stood even taller and more confident on that stage.

I got so starstruck that I still can't fully remember how I managed to get his autograph on my movie poster. I remember meeting the rest of the cast more clearly than I remember meeting Ford at Comic-Con.

I met Tommy Lee Jones when he appeared at the Golden Globes in 2013 as a Best Supporting Actor nominee for Lincoln, and I remember how nice he was when I asked for an autograph. Sela Ward looked just as radiant in real life as she did in the film when I met her at the Gone Girl premiere at the 2014 New York Film Festival. And Julianne Moore was equally lovely when I saw her at the 2015 Academy Awards, the night she won Best Actress for Still Alice.

Though I encountered all of these celebrities, I'm still more dumbfounded that I actually met Harrison Ford in person. He's my favorite actor of all time, and he's still going strong, which makes me even more grateful I got his autograph.

If you're a true Harrison Ford fan, you should know about The Fugitive. It's one of his best performances and among his most exciting films. I dare say that it's his best work beyond the more iconic Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies.
