The Moment I Met Meat Loaf

I don't think people appreciate the icon that is Meat Loaf. With his immense talent, he should be as big as the likes of Stevie Wonder, Elton John, and Michael Jackson. But when I talk about him to my friends, they simply think I'm talking about dinner. It's such a shame! Even when I met him in person, I felt his greatness right away.

I heard that he'd be in my hometown, New York City, one time and I decided I wanted to meet him and get his autograph. I still have the poster I bought from his Neverland Express Euro 82 tour back in the day. It was one of the first concerts I ever attended so I went crazy and bought as much merch as possible. Among them were multiple copies of the same poster—yep! I'm a pretty crazy fan! Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get them signed back then but this time, I made sure I got his autograph!

He went to the famous Rockefeller Center since he was invited for an interview in some news talk show. I had to wake up early in the morning to come to line up and see him in person. To my surprise, there were fairly many people there who wanted to see Meat Loaf too. I always thought that I was one of the very few people in my generation to be his fan but I'm glad more people my age, and some slightly younger, recognize his genius too!

Since we were waiting outside, we weren't able to watch the interview. I only did when I went online a few hours later. But then, right out of the blue, he exited the stage door and I finally got to see the legend in person. Of course, he looked older, no longer rocking his signature locks, but he still had those piercing eyes with a more grown-up gothic look. And as I mentioned earlier, he also retained his charisma, almost to the point that I even felt a little intimidated.

However, when I asked him for his autograph, he was nothing but smiles and politeness. You wouldn't think he was this flamboyant performer when interacting with him. Or probably he no longer acts that way since he's older now (?) Anyway, regardless of that, the person in front of me that day was kind, personable, and simply a good guy. He signed most of my posters, nearly all of them, in fact! And I didn't feel an air of arrogance about him regardless of how mainstream media makes him out to be!

I hope my signed posters will introduce this incredible icon to a whole new generation someday. For now, they stand as reminders that someone so amazing existed!

Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
