Sometimes, you just get so lucky that it's sort of unfair. When I got hired as a temporary assistant—an intern, basically—for a high-profile photographer, I almost thought nothing of it. Photography really isn't my passion, filmmaking is, but I thought that working for this person just might be my meal ticket to getting into the industry. And it doesn't hurt that I know my stuff when it comes to photography neither.
We'd often work on fashion shoots together, which was sort of fun cause I got to travel to all sorts of places. But one time, we had to take a photo of a film cast. I'm sure by now you know what movie the cast was in... the live-action remake of the Lion King. Yes! I met that star-studded ensemble at work! And I didn't miss the opportunity for them to sign my posters. Thank God my boss didn't fire me when I did, lol!
From what I can remember (forgive me, I was practically in a haze that day), Donald Glover was (and still is I hope) a funny guy. He joked around with Keegan-Michael Key a lot during the shoot. John Oliver, I have to say, was probably the funniest. Not necessarily for what he said or did, but that he stood out like a sore thumb amidst these African-American actors. He was just so British. Billy Eichner was such a ball of energy; he seemed like the most thankful to have been cast in the role. While his partner in the movie, Seth Rogen, was surprisingly a chill guy.
Now, I know what y'all are probably thinking right now: where is Beyoncé? Well, she actually came after the whole cast had gone. The now-iconic shot of the entire cast, we just photoshopped Queen Bey in the middle right after. But let me tell you, she is as regal as she appears. I kid you not, I almost bowed down when I met her. My boss even warned me not to ask for her autograph, but when she saw that the others signed them, she did so as well. She truly is a queen!
I'll never forget that day. What a monster of a cast that movie had! And though I no longer work for this photographer, I'm grateful for the opportunity given to me!
Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
