For years to come, people will surely remember the cinematic masterpiece that is "Parasite." It's a psychological thriller, a startling social commentary on wealth and class, and a modern take on film noir all rolled into one. There's no other movie that can equal it at least in this day and age!
Such is my admiration for the film that when I found out that it (deservingly) received a ton of Oscar nominations, I figured it'd be alright to go there and ask for the cast and the great Bong Joon-ho's autographs. I'm not totally familiar with the actors' works but the director is someone I've looked up to for years now. True enough, he made history as the first director of Asian descent to win the Academy Award for Best Director. If I could just get his signature on the movie poster, I'd have a priceless piece of film memorabilia.
Unfortunately, out of all the people involved with "Parasite," Bong Joon-Ho was the only one I wasn't able to meet during the Oscars. I was in a rather secluded part of the audience during the pre-ceremony red carpet event. I saw him pose for cameras and do interviews, but he was so busy and was surrounded by so many people, he hardly stopped to meet any fans. It really bummed me out! It wasn't every day I'd be within close proximity to such a legend! To this day, it still irks me that I never met him when he was so close!
With that said, I did meet the cast of the movie and got their autographs! I was especially delighted to have gotten Song Kang-Ho's autograph. Not only has he appeared in countless Bong Joon-Ho films (he's pretty much his muse at this point!), but he's also a screen legend in South Korea in his own right. The fact that he was never nominated for any acting awards while "Parasite" was the talk of the town that awards season was blasphemy and sacrilegious! Still, getting his autograph was the best thing that happened for me that night!
I got the rest of the cast to sign my many copies of the movie poster too! Lee Sun-Kyun, Cho Yeo-Jeong, Choi Woo-Shik, and Park So-Dam. They were so delightful, all smiles, and just seemed so honored to be there! Not to mention they all looked young! Damn! Korea's skincare industry really knows what it's doing, huh? But I digress. In my eyes, they were the most deserving cast to be on the red carpet that night!
I'm hoping Bong Joon-Ho makes another masterpiece like "Parasite" that can bring him back to the Oscars someday! And when that time comes, I swear I’ll get his autograph! Mark my words!
