Discovering "Apollo 13" In My Dad's Closet

It's not every day you get to discover a piece of history anywhere in your house, right? Let alone in your folks' home! But that's exactly how I would describe what happened when my parents asked me to help clean out their house two years ago. I discovered quite the treasure!

What's the treasure, you ask? Is it gold? Silver? Jewels? No, of course not! My parents weren't pirates or anything like that! What I discovered were signed movie posters of the film, "Apollo 13." Bearing the autographs of such cinematic greats like Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton, Gary Sinise, Ed Harris, and Ron Howard, this was something I never would have imagined! You see, I'm a huge movie geek and I collect memorabilia from all sorts of movies. Even ones that I never would have watched myself. So to see something like this was mindblowing, to say the least.

Now, I know what you must be thinking: how in the world did my folks ever get to possess such a thing? You'd think the answer was that they, too, were movie geeks (perhaps where I inherited my own geekdom from) and they were able to get the autographs of these movie legends back then, right? Well, not exactly! These posters did belong to someone as obsessed with cinema as I am but the person was neither of my parents. The stack of posters actually belonged to the person who owned this house before my parents did, a friend of theirs back in the day.

All I could remember about that person was that he, too, was passionate about movies. He was a high school friend of my parents and might have been the one who introduced them to each other in the 70s. He was single, possibly gay, and loved going to movies every chance he got. I only met him a couple of times growing up but his love for films really resonated with me. It might have triggered my own passion for the art as well! Anyways, the last time I ever met and heard of him was when I graduated high school a couple of years back.

Wanting to own these incredible signed posters myself, I got in touch with the guy's niece. She told me that her uncle really was a passionate movie geek through and through. He collected all sorts of movie memorabilia just like I do and that he'd chase a celebrity to high and low just to get their autograph! Amazingly, the stack of posters I discovered was actually a gift to me! He knew how much I loved movies too from back then and he wanted to leave me a nice present after my parents bought his house. Unfortunately, after that, we never saw him again as he moved to a different state until his death a couple of years ago.

Damn! I wish could have known sooner that such a guy left all of these treasures to me! Here's to hoping whoever's lucky enough to get their hands on some of these posters will cherish them as I do!

Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
