It's always awesome to find out that your parents love the same music as you. No, we weren't one of those close-knit types that bonded over something. We're a family of headstrong and vastly different people. but what I just found out recently was, we're also a family of Pink Floyd fans?
How did I find this out? It was when my mom asked me to clean their attic. I was visiting for the holidays and my folks thought, "Well since our only son is here, why not ask him to clean one of the dirtiest and most-stuffed rooms in the house?". But since I love them—and I had nothing else to do that day—I did it anyway. Boy did it give me back some memories. Listening to my folks tell me to clean this and that, and to be careful with some of the stuff that was there, got me feeling like I was eight again, cleaning my room.
In the middle of dusting off some of the boxes, I opened one that held very interesting pieces of info that I never knew of my parents. Inside that box was a collection of Pink Floyd records and CDs. And on the side, a few posters were rolled together. I took off the rubber band and what I saw shocked me. They were Pink Floyd posters all bearing autographs from the band! What!? My parents actually met my favorite band of all time? I closed the box again and brought it down to ask them about it.
"Oh! I didn't know that was up there!" my dad exclaimed. "Jane, I thought you put this in the closet?" My mom then shrieked with delight having seen the contents of the box again after so long! "It's been so long since I last saw this stuff! I can't believe you found them!" Well, what I couldn't believe was they loved Pink Floyd just as much as I did. They then told me the best story I've ever heard.
Yes, they did meet Pink Floyd and got them to sign those posters. It was during a meet-and-greet they held back in the day. But what was so epic about it was when they saw my parents, and how sweet they are with each other, Roger Waters said, "Aye, aren't you two sweet? You'd probably make beautiful children together!" That night, after meeting their idols, lo and behold, they found out they were pregnant with me!
Now, I'm not sure that's exactly how it went down. My mom has been known to tell tall tales. But whatever, I'll tell everybody that story as if it was the honest-to-goodness truth. For me, it is!
