The Cannes Film Festival truly is one of the best film festivals in the world. Yeah, it's glamorous and flashy and all that stuff, but at the end of the day, some of the best movies of the year show here. Not to mention many of Hollywood's finest also attend and even take part in the event.
Now, y'all should know that when I speak of "Hollywood's Finest," I'm talking about the likes of George Clooney and Julia Roberts. They're living legends, both of them, and finally, they've reunited on screen in "Monster Money." The movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival amidst a bevy of international movies. And since I was already in France for business, I figured I’d try to see them in person and hopefully get their autographs!
Thanks to a couple of my buddies who work in Hollywood, I acquired a few copies of the movie poster. Even before I flew to France, I already knew that the movie would premiere at the festival. Also, since my French colleagues were into movies as well, I scored some tickets to the screening too! I felt like I was the luckiest guy in the world. Practically everything fell into place. All I had to do was muster up the courage to approach the living legends.
You can imagine my nerves getting the best of me as I watched them pose for the cameras on the red carpet and socialize with all sorts of people at the event. I'm sort of used to this sort of high-class social event so I didn't necessarily feel out of place, but the fact that I was in close proximity to some of the biggest stars in the world had my stomach in knots! I did, however, easily get the rest of the cast, which included the beautiful Caitriona Balfe and the uber-talented Jack O'Connell, among many others, to sign my posters too. But with all due respect to them, my main goals were Clooney and Roberts!
I finally got the chance to see them and talk to them in person when a client of our company introduced me to them. I knew he was a big shot but damn, I didn't know he was important enough to know these screen icons! A couple of idle chatter later, I eventually went for the kill. I was so nervous thinking that they might get turned off by my autograph-hounding but, to my utter shock, they said ok! Though, to be honest, I'm sure part of it was that they didn't want to look snobby in front of my client who's actually a close friend of the two.
First, they were initially shocked, wondering why I had a lot of posters with me at the time. I forgot what excuse I made to explain my situation but I do remember that they bought it. And I also vaguely recall that there was a bit of truth to whatever I told them. Anyway, did I care that I probably looked weird (bordering on stalker-ish)? Not at the time! I was just ecstatic that I finally got these legends' autographs!
I still keep in touch with my said client even though I'm now back in the US. And since then, I never saw George Clooney nor Julia Roberts in person again. Oh well, at least I got a piece of them from a once-in-a-lifetime encounter!
Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
