I love my job, I really do! I love working as a fashion journalist for a lifestyle website. It has given me countless perks, from free samples from luxury companies to designer goodies given to me personally by the designers themselves. But, I have to admit, it's the great people that I meet frequently that is the greatest perk. Especially when they're icons.Â
One in particular that I've gotten the privilege of getting a bit chummy with is Paul McCartney. Having covered his daughter, Stella McCartney's shows for quite some time now, I've become a familiar face to him. And you know what? He is such a gentleman! Even when, at times, my reviews of Stella's collections were less than flattering, he never got angry with me. He always knew that I was only being professional, very similar to his daughter. And season after season, we still hang out like friends. They're a charming family, even though they're both quite legendary in their respective fields.Â
Anyways, recently, I decided to come out of the closet with my hobby as an autograph hound. I just bought multiple copies of McCartney's "Egypt Station" poster and I couldn't wait to get the icon to sign them himself. In all honesty, I was risking my reputation, and more or less my job, by planning it. But I didn't care. One season, right before the show, I went up to the legend and asked for his autograph. I may as well have resigned having done it near where my boss was standing a the time. But still, I didn't care.Â
Fortunately for me, and my career, he agreed to do it. "Oh, sure pumpkin! Oh! Did you buy all of this? Aww, that's sweet!" he uttered to me while he signed my posters. One by one he gave his autograph on each and I was in heaven. One, because his response was positive, my butt was saved from getting fired. And two, it's frickin' Paul McCartney's autographs on my posters. I may have gotten used to seeing him every few months during Fashion Week, but still, the guy's an icon!Â
So now, I'm a bit of a laughing stock in the office. But do I care? Of course not! I got Paul McCartney's autograph. That's better than half of the luxury goodies fashion labels have sent me!Â
