When I Caught Up with
the Queen at Her Concert
A cowgirl outfit, a stadium-sized Black rodeo, and one moment after the show that made a whole year.
There will always be only one queen of music for me, and it's Mrs. Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter. Can you believe she's been performing since the early 90s? That's 30+ years at the top of her game. And she's rarely missed, whether she was in Destiny's Child or in her solo work.
The fact that she's still active is already wild. Many of her contemporaries from the 90s have since retired or slowed down. But Beyoncé? She's probably already working on Act III as we speak. I have no doubt she's already making new, more exciting music as I write this.
And please don't hate, but I think Cowboy Carter has been the best she's released so far. I love me some Sasha Fierce, B-Day, and of course, Renaissance, but Cowboy Carter just hit different. Mind you, I was never that big of a fan of country music in the first place. Beyoncé got me hitting that side step like no one's business.
Naturally, I had to be there at the Cowboy Carter tour. I put on my best cowgirl-inspired outfit, gathered my friends up, and had a ball. I really loved the Renaissance tour a couple of years ago, but this one easily trumped that. It was an entire Black rodeo, and my people had the most fun.
She did all the best hits from the album, threw in a few classics, and danced with so much energy that you'd never guess it was a three-hour show. She moved as agile as ever, hitting every beat as if her life depended on it. I've never seen stamina like that from anyone.
Beyoncé is a true diva in her bones, and I love her so much for it. Would I be disappointed if she were actually awful in person? Maybe. But with her talent and influence, she deserves to hold her head up that high.
Fortunately, she was nothing like that when I met her. I only got a brief moment with her as she left the venue after the concert, but she was still nice to us fans. I asked her to sign my Cowboy Carter poster, and she did it with a huge smile as she handed the poster back, calling me baby.
I could've died right then and there and still be happy. I didn't just meet my queen and get her autograph, but she also called me baby. I don't care if I'm a Black woman in my mid-30s with a small kid. If Beyoncé called me a baby, then I am a baby!
Mother. Ms. Beyoncé, ma'am! This baby is patiently waiting for Act III, though. Cowboy Carter was good, but it's had its moment. Please give us Act III soon, and I promise I'll spend a small fortune on tickets to your next tour.
