Wall Street's
Superstar Wolves

One freezing December night at the Ziegfeld, a very opinionated fan, and the cast he'd defend to the death.

Is it controversial to say that The Wolf of Wall Street is Martin Scorsese's best film? I can already hear the rage of film bros saying I'm wrong and that I don't know anything about movies. Okay, calm down. This is just my opinion, and I have a right to it, just like you.

The thing is, Scorsese blended different genres in this one awesome film. It's mainly a comedy, but it has its stellar dramatic moments. It's not necessarily a standard action film, but it is a thriller of sorts. Can we count Jordan and Naomi's relationship as a romance? I think it is. And lest we forget, this is technically a biopic, too.

Only a director like Scorsese can make a movie with all of those and have it be a box office hit. I'm sure many were drawn by his name alone, especially with that cast, but I don't doubt the attention and accolades the film has received since are all its own.

Let's go back to that cast now. The movie stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Kyle Chandler, and introduces Margot Robbie in her first big film. Those are some superstars right there! Scorsese really knows how to assemble a great ensemble, and he went above and beyond with this.

They're not just great actors, either. They have outstanding charisma that helped make their larger-than-life characters, some real or based on real people, more entertaining. They could've been caricatures in less-than-capable hands, but these stars knocked it out of the park. They're true movie stars, in every sense of the word.

Believe me, I know what I'm talking about! I may have sounded like a weird fanboy gushing about his favorite actors—and I am—but I've also met them in person. I was there at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York where The Wolf of Wall Street had its world premiere on December 17, 2013.

The night was cold as heck, and I almost got frostbite, but I braved through it. The moment I saw the trailer, I knew this was gonna be another legendary Scorsese film, and I wanted to be at the premiere to see the cast and get their autographs. And, of course, to be one of the first to see the movie, too.

Margot Robbie immediately stood out to me when she appeared on the red carpet. That woman is stunning in real life. Absolutely beautiful, and I'm glad Scorsese introduced us to her. I know she's since had a prolific movie career with mega-hits and even Oscar nominations, but I'll always consider The Wolf of Wall Street her best movie ever.

The same goes for Leonardo DiCaprio. I'm still baffled as to why he didn't win the Oscar for that performance. And what's ironic is that his co-star, Matthew McConaughey, beat him to Best Actor that year for a different film, Dallas Buyers Club. I met said thief that night and got his autograph, too.

Jonah Hill was also a revelation in the film, and I'm glad he got nominated. Like with Robbie, this movie remains my favorite of his, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The Wolf of Wall Street is just so different, so wild, and so unlike anything we've seen from Scorsese and its cast. Nothing like it has come out since.
