The Best Final Girl
That Never Was
A crowded fan pit, a black gown, and the one lead a horror skeptic couldn't stop rooting for.
They couldn't have picked anyone better than Naomi Scott to star in Smile 2. The first one was nice; I'm not really a huge fan myself, so I'm glad they got a new cast for the sequel. She's just so endearing that it's easy to root for her in a horror film. You just want her to come out on top by the end of the movie.
Even with her diva moments, since she plays a pop star in this one, I was still behind her every step of the way. I got scared whenever she got scared, and I felt both terrified and heartbroken by where her story goes. It made sense why it went there, but damn! I wasn't ready for it.
I've always been a huge fan of Naomi Scott ever since she played Princess Jasmine in Disney's live-action remake of Aladdin. I've followed her career since then, and despite a few misses, she's built a strong filmography. I'm intrigued that she chose to star in a horror like this one, but as usual, she did a great job.
To be honest, I didn't know what to expect. I only watched the first one when I heard she'd star in the sequel, and as someone who's not a big fan of horror, the film was... interesting, to say the least. It's not my favorite, but I acknowledge how scary it is, and it's definitely not for the faint of heart.
Nevertheless, I'm grateful for Smile 2 for giving me the chance to finally meet Naomi Scott in person. I went to the movie's LA premiere on October 14, 2024. It was at the Paramount Theatre at Paramount Pictures Studios, and a fairly big affair. People were excited for this new horror franchise, and it was premiering just in time for Halloween.
The fan pit even got a little crowded, but part of me was happy about it. Fans really showed up for Naomi Scott, and I was lucky to get a front spot because there were so many people behind me.
When she finally appeared, I was stunned. I always imagined her to be so beautiful in real life, but I wasn't ready for just how gorgeous she truly looked that night. She wore an elegant black strapless gown, and she looked like a modern-day Audrey Hepburn, every bit the movie star she is today.
The moment she came up to me and signed my poster, I knew I picked the right actress to stan. She was so nice, so elegant, and so beautiful; she almost felt unreal. I still can't believe I actually met her, let alone got her autograph.
The rest of the cast were there too, naturally, and I got some of their autographs. They were just as nice, but no offense to them, all I could remember, and want to remember, is Naomi Scott. She may not have been a final girl, per se, but for me, she'll always come out on top!
