My Most Memorable Moment in Manhattan

Who doesn't love a good modern fairytale right? A handsome prince-like leading man sweeps a beautiful but poor girl off her feet. He whisks her away from her dingy life to a world of luxury and glamour. That kind of stuff is made for movies! That's why "Maid in Manhattan" was and still is one of my favorites!

I went so far as to attend the premiere of the film in, you guessed it, Manhattan. I was already living in the city for college and I got dragged along by my autograph-hounding friend to go see the stars work the red carpet. IT was my first time doing that sort of thing and, from then on, I became an autograph hound myself. I mean, it was like something came over me when I met JLo, Natasha Richardson, Ralph Fiennes, and more in person. I've only ever watched on screen, so to see them in real life and to get their autographs triggered something in me.

And, I just have to admit, it really is fun! Screaming when there's a star nearby and getting their attention. Actually interacting with these famous people. And, of course, getting their autographs. There's thrilling adrenaline to it yet there's also a reward afterward. It's no wonder my friend became so into it. Eventually, I joined the game as well!

Seeing JLO in a glamorous gown looking like the modern Cinderella that she was in the film really made an impact. She was so big then (well, she's still big now!) so you can imagine how nervous I was at meeting her. She was every bit the superstar the world has known her; magnetic, charismatic, and alluring. Just asking for her autograph was a huge task in itself! Fortunately, she was nice enough to give it to someone who was stuttering in front of her.

Natasha Richardson and Ralph Fiennes, on the other hand, had a different type of charm. I didn't know if it was because of their posh English accents or that they really presented themselves as dignified individuals but I felt as if I was in front of royalty. Like I was given an audience with the Queen. However, these feelings slowly faded away when I realized just how personable they were, Richardson more than Fiennes. The latter was sort of why yet still polite while the former was in full British socialite mode. They were a charming pair and so beautiful in real life! It's just a shame that Richardson had to play the villain in the movie!

To this day, I still cherish my signed "Maid in Manhattan" posters and now, I hope those of you lucky enough to purchase it will do so as well! They don't make modern fairytale films like they used to!
