It's not every day you get to meet a legend. But when you do, it's honestly exhilarating! It was as if you met a saint or something. They seem so otherworldly, like aliens from another planet. And the legend that I met that was extra special. He was none other than Bob Dylan.
It was at a small gathering my old uncle had at his place. As a chef, he asked me to cater the soiree he held for his many friends. My uncle used to work in the music business. He wasn't that much of a big shot, but because he's such a stand-up guy, many people loved him. Even famous ones. Mostly, however, his closest buddies were people behind-the-scenes. Not many people would probably know them, but these were industry icons in their own right.
That evening, it was the first time one of my uncle's more famous friends actually stopped by. It was Bob Dylan. He came through his door like the iconic king he is. He owned the room. He had such confidence that everyone, even I from the small window from the kitchen, was mesmerized. And during the dinner, he told all these amazing stories about jet-setting with the rich and famous during the good ol' days. He also had a few stories to share about my uncle.
At the end of the night, my uncle dragged me from the kitchen and introduced me to the music legend. "Well, no wonder the food was excellent!" he said. To this day, I take those words to heart. Bob frickin' Dylan liked my food! To hell with five-stars, that's the only review I'll ever hold dear in my whole culinary career. Sheepishly, I asked my uncle if I could his autograph. The legend overheard and, before my uncle could even asked him, he told me himself that he'd love to.
I went straight to my car to get my posters and rushed back to see them, Both of them were still in the same spot where I left them. I, on the other hand, probably looked stupid huffing and puffing with a few posters in my hand. Still, Bob Dylan signed them. He even left me a message on one of them. That'll be my secret!
A piece of advice: when you meet a legend, relish the moment! You never know when or even if that will ever happen again!
