You guys! Let me tell you... when they announced that Peter Jackson was going to make "The Hobbit" a film, I screamed my lungs out. The first three "Lord of the Rings" movies were my absolute fave! And when I found out that we'll finally go back to Middle Earth, I very well may have crapped my pants!
When I heard the casting, however, I may have passed out as well! Particularly when I read that playing Bilbo Baggins, Frodo's uncle who gave him 'The One Ring.' will be Martin Freeman. The Watson to Benedict Cumberbatch's Sherlock Holmes! It was such a genius and fan-serving casting that I already expected a lot for this new franchise. Fortunately, after seeing all three, they did not disappoint!
Around the same time that the movie was premiering, I worked my butt off to get Freeman's autograph. Don't blame me, I'm just a huge fan! Though I eventually got most of the movie cast's autographs, he was doubly important to me. I loved him "Sherlock" and in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."
Thankfully, I live in New York, where a lot of TV networks operate. Freeman went to all sorts of talk shows and media interviews in the Big Apple, and I followed him to one where I finally for his autograph. But, and I kid you not, when I finally met him, I suddenly blurted out, "Hello, Bilbo Baggins!" Upon hearing it, he just let out a gentle "ha!" as if to say that he's heard that countless times before. Was I embarrassed? Uh duh! But did I regret doing it? No-effing-way!
Now, I'm actually lost as to which franchise I liked more. Both the "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" movies were all spectacular. I can never choose which ones were better. And so, they all stand in equal footing in my book!
