At times, collecting signed memorabilia can seem like dog catching. You look intently, trying to find tho stray away pieces that others might not want, but you absolutely do! And seeing as, in recent years, I spend a lot of time hunting down signed posters of Walt Disney's "101 Dalmatians," the comparison felt very appropriate.Â
This isn't to say, however, that I was crazy like Cruella De Vil when I was hunting down these posters. I was simply enthusiastic about them. It's not every day that posters of animated classics bear the autographs of the voice cast. In those days, the stars behind such characters were rarely revered. It was always the live-action stars that people hound for autographs.Â
But for me, I knew the value of such posters. And so every time I got a tip, I would hop into my car and drive away. Fortunately, a lot of times these places that discovered and sold these posters were in towns nearby. Though sometimes, I had to take the bus to go from state to state. My journey didn't drain my wallet, per se, but I did do a lot of spending. However, it was all worth it!Â
Seeing the autographs of Betty Lou Gerson (Curella De Vil), Rod Taylor (Pongo), Ben Wright (Roger) and the like gave me a tinge of nostalgia. I instantly felt I was taken back in time when my dad was practically a toddler and when this movie first premiered. Ahh, the good ol' days!Â
These are priceless items! Nevermind that I worked hard to get them, that's the fun part for me. But I do hope you fellow collectors out there realize just how worthy of your investment these signed posters are!Â
