In all my years as a film-lover and an autograph-hound, I've had a few correct predictions about who's going to be a star. As much as I love big studio films, I also pay close attention to smaller-budget and even independent films to see the up and coming directors and actors worthy of my notice. "Yesterday" was such a movie, and the cast is heavy with tomorrow's A-listers!
Some, I admit, are already quite known. Most prominently, the women: Kate McKinnon and Lily James. The latter even played Cinderella for goodness' sake! While Kate McKinnon, on the other hand, is on her way to becoming the next best thing to ever come out of Saturday Night Live. Both ladies were lovely during the movie's red carpet premiere. So polite and accommodating, the beauties signed all of my and my cousin's copies of the poster. McKinnon even cracked a joke that had my second cousin laughing hysterically. While James was simply lovely. Seeing her in person, she really is a Disney princess come-to-life!
But the one who people should truly watch out for is the leading man, Himesh Patel. Talk about talent! He belted all those Beatles songs as if he really did write them! John Lennon would be proud! As I know McCartney and Starr probably are right now. Out of so many matinee idols the filmmakers could have gone for this role, they made a wise choice to pick this unknown star-in-the-making. The hype wasn't around who he was, but rather the excellent talent he showed on-screen. And what a humble guy too. He couldn't believe that we, full-fledged autograph-hounds, wanted his autograph.
For any Beatles fan out there, this movie does their songs justice! Patel and the rest of the cast did the band's famous catalog well, great even! It's a must-watch indeed!
