I've always been interested in what goes on in recordings for animated movies and shows. How do the actors work? Do they get to see each other? Are their booths cramped? Do they get to hear their dub right after they record them? I got so fascinated with all of these that I was able to see one for myself!
Thank goodness for connections! Because my brother-in-law works at a big Hollywood studio, I get to tour film sets, animation studios, and the like. It doesn't hurt that he's a pretty important person in the company too. Since he knew about my curiosity about dub recordings in animated features, and he owed me one for babysitting my nephews one night, he allowed me to watch a recording session for "Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge." Yes, it was a film based on the popular video game. I was pretty obsessed with the game myself when I was younger so you could say that I was pretty excited about this!
It helped that the cast was stellar too! Joel McHale, Jennifer Carpenter, Jordan Rodrigues, Patrick Seitz, and more! Of course, I know Joel McHale from "Community" and his other comedy shows and gigs, while the others are voice actors I've been hearing since childhood. Seeing them perform live gave me chills. It was incredible how that can sound like that. I even had flashbacks to when I'd play the game with my buddies back in the day. Ahh! It was incredible!
Unfortunately, it was a pretty day for both the cast and crew at that time so I didn't get to stay for long. It was a shame too because I really wanted to meet them and get their autographs. However, right as I was getting ready to leave, Joel McHale himself went out and talked to me. He was so nice and polite, accommodating me as I waited for my brother-in-law to settle his affairs before leaving. Apparently, he told McHale that I was a fan of his and that I wanted his autograph. Damn, bro! I know we were family but I didn't know you had sixth sense! Was that how you won over my sister? Just kidding!
Anyways, since I had a piece of paper on me, Joel McHale signed it and I finally got my first autograph from an actual star. I was a bit disappointed though because I actually wanted more of the cast members' autographs too! Little did I know, just as we were walking off set, my brother-in-law suddenly gave me a rolled-up stack of what seemed to be posters. "Just a little gift for your hobby," he said. I remember my sis told him that I collect movie memorabilia but he never gave me some even though he worked in a big studio.
To my complete and utter shock! When I rolled the movie posters open, they were actually the movie posters for "Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge" and were signed by most of the cast! It was incredible! Even my sister gagged when she saw it! I was so grateful, I almost fell into tears. But I didn't! My sis would often torment me when I cried in front of her (affectionately, of course!).
And so, since I was so generously given this gift, I'm also sharing these with all of you! These are priceless autographed memorabilia you won't want to pass on! I hope many of y'all like 'em!
Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
