Like many of you here, my late husband was passionate about collecting movie memorabilia. He would go to all sorts of premieres and red carpet events to get the autographs of A-list celebs. Sometimes, I'd even help him myself. And so, when going through his stuff, I discovered his treasure trove of signed notebooks, movie posters, t-shirts, caps, and more! Boy, was he a fighter! I'm sure all these items had their own respective stories, but the one I know most was for the Batman Forever movie posters.
My late husband was a frustrated photographer and filmmaker. Hence, his love for movie memorabilia. But he never really pursued it professionally. It was a sort of side-passion of his while he worked in a company's finance department. But he did volunteer to assist in all sorts of shoots, and one of the best jobs he ever had while doing so was helping out with the promotional photos for Batman: Forever. During the shoot, he met all the top stars: Val Kilmer, Nicole Kidman, Jim Carrey, and more. He even remembered how nice most of them were, becoming buddies with them even if it was only for that day.
Now, of course, at this time he wasn't able to get them to sign anything cause he was so star struck that he forgot. Luckily, as thanks for helping out with that said shoot, his boss there gave him free tickets to go to the red carpet premiere. He promised himself that the second time he'll meet those stars, he'll finally get their autographs. At the very least, they all met him already. My husband then got the bright idea to get early copies of the movie poster from the art department that handled the shoot. They gave him a few copies.
When night came, my husband put on his best tux and went to the premiere. To his pleasant surprise, not only did the actors recognize him, they even all smiled at him. As if their 'closeness' extended beyond that day. And of course, most of them were kind enough to sign all of my husband's copies of the movie poster. It was a collection that cherished most of his life after that. We only even saw just one, he kept the other copies safe in a box in the attic.
Now that my husband is gone, I'm sure he'd love to share his collection with other passionate collectors out there. Enjoy!
