Colin Firth, Nicole Kidman, and Laura Linney. You could say that these people are geniuses! Not in the standard academic sense of the word, but when it comes to their talents on-screen, the word genius always comes to my mind. Most especially when I watched one of their best films together which was appropriately entitled "Genius."
With such a cast that also included Guy Pearce, Vanessa Kirby, and more, I knew I needed to uphold my reputation as an ace autograph-hound and get this cast's autographs on the movie poster. Fortunately, thanks to my connections, I was already assured of one! That of Colin Firth. A colleague of mine who knows my hobby is actually a good friend of Firth's from when they were both in school. Whenever I wanted the Academy Award-winning actor to sign something, I'd just give it to my friend and he'd return it to me with the screen icon's autograph.
This time around, since my friend knew that I would be attending the premiere for "Genius" and that Colin Firth wouldn't be there, he already suggested that he get his autograph beforehand. That way, I'd simply get the rest of the cast that night on the red carpet. It was a genius idea (pun intended) and a few nights before the red carpet premiere, I received a stack of movie posters all with Colin Firth's autographs on them. I was like, "Damn! Just how close is my friend with him (Firth)?"
Anyways, with one cast member down, I had to get the rest during the premiere. I saw them all! Nicole Kidman, who looked ravishing in her black lace dress. Laura Linney, who also looked elegant in black. And Jude Law, ever the dashing leading man. They were pretty generous with their autographs that night and most of them signed on many of my posters. They even all asked how I got Colin Firth's autograph knowing he wasn't there and I told them that I was a friend of a friend (which is true!).
Of course, in the end, I watched the movie and loved it. The cast is composed of screen geniuses, after all! I'd expect nothing less when you gather this much talent in one film! To this day, it baffles me that it wasn't that successful during the awards season the following year! I figured the cast would get nominated, at the very least!
Oh well, if the members of the Academy weren't as floored with "Genius" as I was, so be it! As for me, accolades or not, I still consider these legends as geniuses and I'm more than proud to have gotten their autographs!
