I know it's a cliche when people say that such and such is "the next big thing in Hollywood." But for Michael B. Jordan, I really believe that. One, he's already big in the game. With films like "Black Panther" and "Creed" under his belt, y'all know this guy ain't backing down!
Two, he's just a great actor. Period! Sure, he's a nice guy. Sure, he's got the ladies swoonin' with that million-dollar smile of his. And yes, he's got a bangin' bod! But all of that means nothing when it comes to his acting. He's got the chops to be the next Brad Pitt or Matt Damon, or even Denzel Washington. He's got the goods! And for anyone out there still in doubt, watch "Just Mercy."
Up against a boatload of Oscar winners and nominees, Jordan held his own in this battle of talents. He stole the scenes from the likes of Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, and even the great Tim Blake Nelson. All of them gave A+ performances, but I have to give Jordan an extra + for taking on the lead and bringing it home. Was it an Oscar-worthy performance? Hard to say. But I will tell y'all that he'll soon be up there someday, accepting the award!
It's his star-quality, however, that I think will help him get to that point. I saw it for myself when I went to the movie's red carpet premiere at TIFF. I hadn't even seen the film at that point, but I already knew he was gonna knock it out of the park the moment I met him. Listening to him speak on media interviews on the red carpet, I heard a passionate actor proud of what he has accomplished. And after seeing it, I understood why.
Even when he stood in front of me, signing my posters that my sister got me from a friend in the movie business, I felt his star-quality shine through. Before meeting him, I had met Jamie Foxx, Brie Larson, O'Shea Jackson Jr., and the rest of the cast. With all due respect to them, I was most floored by Michael B. Jordan. More so after seeing the film myself.
I'm glad I got him to sign posters for me. I'm sure, in this decade, this will be worth more than ever! I'm telling you guys, keep an eye out on this guy. He's going to be bigger than he is right now!
