When you think of a great rock band, who comes into your mind? What do they look like? What's their sound? Probably, all of you have different bands in mind. And that's okay and it is to be expected. But for me, there's only one band that really personifies rock music: Linkin Park!
The rock sound of the early 2000s was, for me, the best the business ever produced. They were hardcore, man! They were edgy, punk, and everything in-between. You'd literally bang your head every time they play, which is often a great sign of absolutely fantastic music. Anyways, more than their music, they're also some of the greatest guys you will ever meet. I know, I've met them!
It was at their concert here in California was when I met them. I and a couple of chums went to see them as a birthday present for my best friend Michael. Despite being rock music fans, we looked like absolute losers wearing all sorts of Linkin Park Memorabilia. Linkin Park shirts, beanies, wrist-bands, and we were holding their posters as well. I and Michael had "Meteora" posters, their 2003 album, while the others had other album posters too. We all went to have them signed too.
As usual, they killed it at the concert. Seeing them live brought back a lot of memories of when they were hittin' it big in the early 2000s. It was as if they were still in their heyday. And you know what? For us fans, they still are. They're so good! I was banging my head to every song, I even developed a stiff neck the next day. And I swear I might have hit some people with my head. Not gonna lie, I was a bit high then, so during the concert, I might have done things I shouldn't have. But hey, that's what you do in concerts right?
Anyways, after the concert, we made our way backstage. Another buddy, Dave, had connections. So we made our way to the band. All I can say is, thank God I was no longer high when I met them. I wouldn't dare embarrass myself in front of my heroes. And fortunately, I didn't I was ab;e to pull myself together right before going backstage. Right then and there, we met them and they were more than we expected. They're humble, kind, and not an ounce of vanity within them. And when we asked for their autographs, they didn't even hesitate to sign our posters.
I long for the days of real rock music again. For now, at least I was able to get my favorite band's, and one of the best in music's history, autographs.
