If you were to ask anyone who the most likable Hollywood actor working today is, more often than not, he/she will say it's Tom Hanks. This guy can possibly do no wrong. He inhabits every role, no matter what type of character he is, yet when the cameras are off, he goes back to being the same lovely person he's always been. There's likely not a single bad bone in his body, and everyone who's worked with him seems to think he's a great guy. Which is why most of his movies are heartwarming, but these five are some stand-outs you can watch with your whole family.
Toy Story
Is there anything more heartwarming than a toy devoted to giving his owners the best childhood? Probably not. 'Woody' is probably Hanks's longest-running role to date. From 1995 to today in 2019, the award-winning actor still voices that cowboy doll who's all about being the best toy he can be. And whatever adventures he and his fellow toys get themselves into, it's always heartwarming to see Woody's devotion to his owners as well as to his friends. There will never be a Disney character quite like him.
Sleepless in Seattle
When a love story has a little boy drawing his dad to a young woman, you know it's a heartwarming movie. Such was the movie magic that was "Sleepless in Seattle". It was one of many films Hanks did with Meg Ryan, and both became part of Hollywood's most adorable loveteams. In this film, Hanks plays Sam Baldwin, a handsome widower who just wants to live as happy a life as he can with his young son. And the way he achieves that through his little tot will always be touching to watch!
Saving Private Ryan
A movie about World War II soldiers going into enemy lines to bring back one of their own. Now if that's not heartwarming, I don't know what is! Here, Hanks exemplified one of his finest acting performances. So much so that he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor. As Captain John H. Miller, the expert showed the vulnerable side of soldiers during the war. Though this is supposed to be a list of family-friendly films, your kids can sit out this particular film due to its graphic depiction of war.
Forrest Gump
Arguably his most iconic role, Tom Hanks was simply breathtaking as Forrest Gump, a slow-witted yet kind-hearted man from Alabama. Mostly everyone he encountered in his life were quick to brush him aside as another idiot in the streets, but Gump kept his cool and kept on living. He unintentionally contributed to many historic moments in the world, such as the Vietnam War, the Watergate Scandal, and the rise of Apple, among many others. But through it all, he remained the humble Southern gentleman his mother raised him to become.
When you have a heart of gold, your star will truly shine. Tom Hanks is one of those treasures that Hollywood is lucky to have.
