Netflix can really gather up some stars, can't they? It's solid proof that they're a force to be reckoned with! Back in 2018, Netflix gathered up quite the all-star cast for their anthology short film series, “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.” It included Liam Neeson, James Franco, Tim Blake, and more! I'll never forget it because I met the cast myself!
Actually, I met just some of the all-star cast but it's good enough! At least I was able to get their autographs. I've been an autograph hound for years before the movie so when I heard that about this new series jam packed with big stars, I knew I had to attend the premiere. The only problem was that, since a good portion of the cast are British, and surely some of them will only be able to attend the UK premiere, I'm sure I wasn't going to get all of their autographs. Fortunately, however, I have a colleague in London who's also an autograph hound!
And so the story went that I went to the US premiere, which was during the New York Film Festival that year (convenient too because I already live in Manhattan), then when I got my fair share of autographs, my London college will attend the premiere there to get his set of signatures. It was a foolproof plan that was, for the most part, successful.
It was during the New York premiere that I met the legendary Liam Neeson and Tim Blake. Though the former is a lot more famous than the latter, for a movie geek like me, they were equal in prominence. And damn, Neeson was tall! Now I know why he was perfect for "Taken," lol! The guy is huge and, although he seemed intimidating, he was incredibly nice. He didn't have an air of arrogance to him and was pretty generous with his autographs too. Tim Blake, on the other hand, was so cool. He has such a laid-back attitude that really helped you feel more relaxed around him. I'm so glad I got his autograph along with the many other members of the cast I also met that night.
As our plan dictated, after I got my fair share of autographs, I sent our movie posters to my colleague in London. He told me that the UK premiere was just as busy and bustling with stars. Over there across the pond, "The Ballad of Buster Scruggs'' premiered during the British Film Institue festival, similar to how it went down here in New York. There, he met Jonjo O'Neill, who people might recognize from "Doctor Who" and "Pennyworth." I remember laughing at how my friend, who's gay, just swooned over him that he almost forgot to ask for his autograph! Luckily, he remembered it in time!
Eventually, he also got a lot of autographs too but, unfortunately, he didn't get all. And as fool-proof, as we thought our plan was, there was still one autograph we weren't able to get: James Franco's! He is one of the leads of the film series, after all! It'd be a shame if we didn't get him too!
However, luck was on our side. A couple of months later, a friend from Los Angeles told me that he had some connections with Franco's team and offered to help us get his autograph. He didn't share many details but simply told me to send him the signed posters and expect them to get back with his autograph. I threw caution to the wind and sent them to him and a few weeks later, I did get them back signed by James Franco himself. It was amazing!
I don't know if there'd be another cast quite like this one but if there will be, you can bet your ass I'll be hounding for their autographs!
Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
