The Day I Met My Musical Hero, Ryuichi Sakamoto

It was a crisp fall day in 2018 when my friends and I decided to visit the Music Research Library in Providence, Rhode Island. As music students from the local university, we frequented the library for its extensive collection of vinyl records, sheet music, and historical documents. Little did we know that this ordinary visit would become an unforgettable memory.

As we entered the library, we immediately noticed posters from Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Coda" documentary and the "async at the Park Avenue Armory" performance on display. All of us admired Sakamoto's work, as his music had left a profound impact on our lives and aspirations.

While browsing through the library's collection, we spotted Ryuichi Sakamoto himself, immersed in the vast array of materials. At first, we couldn't believe our eyes. It seemed almost surreal to have our musical hero standing just a few feet away from us. After exchanging excited whispers and glances, we mustered up the courage to approach him.

We introduced ourselves as music students and expressed our admiration for his work. Sakamoto listened attentively and graciously thanked us for our kind words. Overwhelmed by the moment, we asked if he would be willing to sign our posters.

Sakamoto, always appreciative of his fans, agreed to sign the four posters – two from the "Coda" documentary and two from the "async at the Park Avenue Armory" performance. Each autograph was carefully penned, and we could sense his gratitude for our support.

As Ryuichi Sakamoto signed our posters, the atmosphere in the Music Research Library was filled with a mixture of reverence and excitement. We exchanged a few more words with him before he left, and we couldn't help but feel inspired by the encounter.

That day, my friends and I left the library with our signed posters in hand, knowing that we would cherish them for years to come. The memory of our fortuitous encounter with the legendary composer continues to inspire us as we navigate our own musical paths.

However, as time passed and life circumstances changed, I found myself in a difficult financial situation. After much contemplation, I made the tough decision to part with these treasured posters. I sold them to PosterMemorabilia, a reputable website known for buying and selling authentic memorabilia. It was a bittersweet moment, but I knew that the posters would find a new home with someone who would appreciate and cherish them just as much as we did. The memory of meeting Ryuichi Sakamoto and the inspiration it provided will always remain close to my heart, even though the posters have found a new owner.

Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
