Take it from me, it really is thrilling owning something that a superstar signed. What more when that superstar is an absolute legend, right? Well, now you'll understand why I got so caught up when I finally got my posters of "Thriller" signed by none other than the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson!
Now, many of you might be thinking: "It's been more than a decade now since Michael Jackson died, how can I have gotten his autograph?" I didn't say I got them signed myself. I said I got them, period! In fact, I won them over a contest held by a fan club website dedicated to him. And you know what? I urge many of you out there to join one. If you have a favorite superstar, there's nothing quite like sharing your fandom with other people who are just as passionate as you. Sometimes, even more so. Though the notion of these fan club websites does seem sad, it really isn't!
In fact, you never know what you might get out of joining one, like me! Never in a million years did I ever expect that a small-town guy such as myself could ever own a bunch of posters signed by Michael Jackson. I don't even think he ever went to my town when he was alive. But because of fan club websites such as the one I joined, I now have these priceless memorabilia. The contest was simple—write an essay as to why you would deserve the grand prize. The grand prize being, of course, a bunch of "Thiller" posters each with Michael Jackson's autograph.
I wrote in about the impact of that iconic album, and song, in my life. Growing up in a small town, I was an extremely shy kid. But only when I watched the music video of "Thriller" did I come out of my shell. And because of my newfound confidence at the time, I got the courage to ask out this girl I've been crushing on. We went to the school dance—where we, of course, danced to "Thriller"—fell in love, and we've been together for more than 30 years now.
I guess my quaint little tale got to the judges because I won. And now, since I only really needed one (well, admittedly, I kept three!), I'm sharing some of the posters online through here. To whoever will buy a copy, I hope it'll be as thrilling for you to get it as much as it was for me!
Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
