Catching Up With New York's Finest!

With what's been happening in the US lately, the police aren't exactly enjoying a good rep nowadays. I mean, it's their fault, but it's just so sad that the people have turned against those who were supposed to be protecting them in the first place. Why can't they be just like the guys at "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" instead?

Although it's just a TV show, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" is the paradigm of what good policing is all about. Especially the lead character, Olivia Benson, played by the stunning Mariska Hargitay. This woman knows when to get tough and when to go gentle. She's aware of her biases but is always fair. And, of course, she's a complete badass to boot. Backed by a crew of other great officials played by Ice-T, Dann Florek, and Richard Belzer, real-life American police officers can only dream of being that good!

And you know what? Speaking of real life, these guys are just as awesome off-screen as well! Since I live in New York, I tend to be privy as to where this series films throughout the city. When I heard that they'd be filming near my block, I prepared my "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" posters, which I got from an NBC gift shop, and planned to get them signed. I was excited to see these legends up close and personal. You have no idea how much I love this show!

Thanks to my sources—the gossips in town—I did eventually see them filming near my place. It was a good thing that it wasn't an action scene they were filming at the time, hence, I'm sure the actors would have been in a foul mood. The moment I heard the director yell cut, I made my way to an area where fans were waiting and hoped for the best. They often didn't interact with fans while filming, especially when on location, but it was just my luck that, at that time, they did!

As I expected, Mariska Hargitay is a saint in real life. I don't know if it's because I can't disassociate Olivia Benson from her or something, but she just has this warmth and gentle nature in person. It draws you in, just like how Benson leaves you connected from the screen. Ice-T and Richard Belzer, on the other hand, were just as much a bunch of jokers off-screen as they are on the show. They seemed like happy-go-lucky people who just enjoyed life. I can't even believe that star in this riveting crime drama! As for Dann Florek, he's a respectable man, making him the second-best casting in the show after Hargitay.

Not gonna lie, getting their autographs was one of the proudest moments of my life. To this day, I still watch "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" even though some of them are no longer on it. It's just so good!
