There are simply some women with incredible talent. I'm always so in awe with how grand and amazing they are in singing. It's as if they were born on this earth for no other purpose than to sing. The likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Barbra Streisand, and Aretha Franklin come to mind. But then, there's Celine Dion!
For me, Dion's harmonious timbre and graceful melodies trump those other divas. She has both precision and control, which she needs in order to fashion that voice of hers into iconic songs. And even when she has reached a point in her career where she no longer needs to prove anything, she still goes out.
How do I know this? I've witnessed it myself. When she had her residency in Las Vegas, I was lucky enough to have watched her show. She sang all of her classics, from "Alone" to "All By Myself" and from "To Love You More" to "The Power of Love". And, of course, she sang what is undoubtedly her best and most iconic work of art: "My Heart Will Go On". When she sang that, I swear, my heart went along with her!
After her show, my friend, who knew the chanteuse's makeup artist, got us passes to go meet her backstage. I was in awe at her. Most especially with how simple and approachable she was. On-stage, she was this effervescent goddess with a heavenly voice. But in person, she was just like your pal from work.
I was so enamored and breathless that I could hardly lift my posters for her to sign. My friend, who herself was also incredibly speechless, had to muster up the courage for both of us to ask for her autographs. Fortunately, she signed every poster, even despite how foolish we must have looked. Now, that's a testament to her humility and generosity as a person.
If there's anyone worth watching live, it's Celine Dion. Do yourselves a favor and when she happens to be in your town, go see her! You will never regret it!
