The Best Office
a Guy Could Ever Ask For
A parade through Scranton, a concert on the courthouse lawn, and a surprise guest at PNC Field.
The Office is the funniest show I've ever watched, and quite possibly ever will. Everything about it was perfect, from the cast and their pitch-perfect performances to the hilarious storylines and mockumentary vibe. I don't think I've ever laughed as much at a piece of media as I did while watching it.
The Office's magic came from the cast's chemistry. Steve Carell as the office boss, Michael Scott, to the rest of the cast. John Krasinski as Jim Halpert and his funny antagonism against Rainn Wilson's Dwight Schrute. And of course, Krasinski and Jenna Fischer's believable office romance as Jim and Pam.
Their chemistry is rarer than you think. I'd even go so far as to say that The Office had the best comedy cast I've ever seen. The only other sitcom that can compete, but still ranks second place to me, is Modern Family. Well, maybe Abbott Elementary is up there, too.
To me, however, The Office will always stand head and shoulders above the rest. I can't even believe it only ran for nine seasons. I know that's a lot already, especially by today's standards, but I think it could've run much longer. Though Steve Carell's departure in 2011 might've contributed to its eventual decline.
Anyway, the cast wasn't just funny; they were also fun. I went to the show's Wrap Party in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on May 4, 2013. And no, it wasn't an invite-only industry event. It was open to everyone, which made it even better.
The cast and crew staged an entire event for the series finale, including a parade, a concert, and a writers' Q&A, with a farewell celebration at PNC Field at night. About 10,000 fans went, and we really got up close and personal with the cast at some point.
I even got some of the main cast to sign my poster. I went up to Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer and asked them for their autographs. I wish I'd gotten to the others, too, but the night got so crazy that I missed my chance.
Still, luck was on my side because I then got to meet Steve Carell when he made a surprise appearance by the end. He was already huge at the time, so catching up with him in person was something, but I still got his autograph, too.
I couldn't have asked for a better way to say goodbye to my favorite TV show ever. I don't know of many sitcoms, even ones considered more popular than The Office, that threw their fans a party like this. The fact that they did it without anyone asking made me love it even more.
There's even a spinoff now, The Paper, which brought back Oscar Nuñez as Oscar. But if they ever do a full revival, I won't watch it unless they bring back the original American cast. I want Steve Carell, John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, and more to return. I don't want a new cast or even new characters. If they can't bring the OGs back, then they shouldn't do it at all.
