When you want to learn something, always learn from someone with years of experience. And in the case of my friendly neighbor, decades of experience won't hurt. When I first started autograph-hounding, I was completely inexperienced. But because of my good friend Joe, I learned many tricks of the trade!
Keep in mind, Joe did his autograph-hounding during the Golden Age of Hollywood. Back in a time when celebrities rarely went in public, mostly for privacy, but often to keep the legend of their names even more alive. Joe's collections of autographs were extremely impressive. He got the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Greta Garbo, Cary Grant, Mae West, and more to sign his memorabilia. Seeing them in his house was insane!
However, there was a gift he gave me that I'll treasure forever. Back in 1940, when it first premiered, Joe got the autographs of the voice cast of "Pinocchio." The sweet and boyish Dickie Jones (Pinocchio), the wise and funny Cliff Edwards (Jiminy Cricket), the kind and caring Christian Rub (Gepetto), and the elegant Evelyn Venable (The Blue Fairy). All of them signed the movie posters Joe had. It was quite the collection!
And since we share a passion for movies and signed memorabilia, he gave me a couple of such posters as a sort of starting gift into becoming an autograph hound. It was the best gesture a mentor could ever give to his apprentice!
I told him I'd give some to this website so we could both earn a few bucks. He didn't mind. As he once said, part of what makes this lifestyle fulfilling is sharing the wonders of cinema to the rest of the world!
Please note: Our inventory is limited as we may have only received a few posters in total. Most of our items are obtained from film premieres, studios, and from autographed hounds such as the one in the story above.
